about

The Many Few are a guitar-based 5-piece with inventively paired male and female singers. Their new-wavy art-pop songs are angular, catchy and charming.

Their creative journey has brought them from lo-fi experiment, through open mic intimacy, to their present drum-fuelled ensemble - building a network of cool friends and an intrigued following.

Their latest incarnation crackles with energy and sets their unique material alight. The Many Few are engaged in their own form of spell weaving, making songs that are delightful and dangerous.

Track Name: Human Flesh Being
I would if I could, but I'm not made of wood
I'm just a flesh human being looking for the answers yeah
I tried to be steel, but I'm perfectly real
I'm just a flesh human being looking for the answers yeah

I'm all over seed, Wish my soul could be freed
Hold down a steady bed, No not me I'm such a hot hot head
Away down the balustrade, But the knob at the bottom is far too hard
I'm running down the drive, But that's just when your 4-wheel arrived

I'm just a Human Flesh Being, Fantasies are what I'm seeing
I remember when I used to dream, Beautiful, innocent dreams
But now that's not the way, Since I went down the Murky Way

I'm just a flesh pot, acting like a robot
I'm just a flesh human being looking for the answers yeah
At the end we are dust, at the moment I lust
I'm just a flesh human being looking for the answers yeah

Am I willing to purge, my natural urge
Went on a midnight stroll
But the felines of sin were there out on patrol
What was once cloudless sky
Is now claustrophobic and closed to my eye
Unable to think any thought
Fetid and fevered I'm perfectly caught
Track Name: Typical British Weather
Parlour detonation, parlour detonation
Letting some light pour in
Watching the walls cave in, and what's more
I demolished the door. I demolished the door

Taking medication, then forsaking medication
Letting nature take the course instead
Pass me the wine, pass me the wine
That's very kind, you're one of a kind

Typical British weather, typical British weather
Is so hard to come by
Where there's rain, you'll see me again
I'll forget the time, and I'll forfeit peace of mind

Watching snails out on the slime
People out pacing the wet pavements
Slip them a smile - slip them a smile

Typical British weather
Typical, tipping it down
when you've only the vestiges of an old umbrella
I'll stand in the rain, completely sane
I'll forget the time, and I'll forfeit peace of mind

Here come the snails in blustery gales
Feng shui the sky, watch all your friends blowing by
All your friends blowing by
Track Name: Where I Work
Pecking on the nose, Pecking on the ear
I could write a book about the pecking order here
Shouting in the front, Shouting in the back
Why’d they phone a doctor when they always get a quack?

This is where we work, where we work
Our boss looks like Captain James T Kirk
This is where we slave night and day
I wonder if we’ll ever get our pay

Running ‘round the room, Running ‘round the block
Watch out for the errand boy he’s in a constant shock
Steaming out the pot, steaming out the ears
Secretary Susan touch types away the tears

This is where we work, where we work
Our boss looks like Captain James T Kirk
And we wish he’d disappear, right before our eyes
We wish he’d sail off, on the starship Enterprise

This is where we slave days and nights
Acting out our shady business rites
Marching muzak helps us keep the pace
I wanna hide in my briefcase

It’s a Saturday, It’s a Sunday
What shall we do on the Monday?
We could go to work or stay at home
Make love and get the sack

This is where we used to work
Our boss he didn’t let us shirk
This is where we slaved
nights and days
How we hated that place
in a number of ways
Track Name: Catching
I have a half-wit for a friend
Who thinks that love is something that you can catch
He’s got it bad, and he thinks she’ll get it worse
I’m sorry but she had a jab when she was young
& she won’t be catching that from you
She’s immune, & she won’t be catching that from you

I have a whole-wit for a friend
Who thinks that love is just a plot he can hatch
Then he will score, and he and she will enter the hutch
I’m sorry but she needs to get myxamatosis
Then she’ll be blind enough to fall for you
She’s immune, and she won’t be catching that from you

There’s a fuck-wit down the street
Who thinks that love is really all that you need
He may be right, but I’ve got all his cash
I’m sorry but I emptied his pockets one by one
As he stood in a daze in the street
I’m immune, and I caught him in a daze in the street
Yeah I’m immune, and I caught him in a daze
Track Name: Exquisite Shark
You can turn the light on, He can turn the night on, Oh Oh,
Well the sun is going to go down, Yeah the sun is going go out

Exquisite shark, Selling me the dark, From his protoplasmic death defying market stall
Faint hearts are advised to withdraw, You can turn the light on, He can turn the night on
Oh oh, Well the sun is going to go down, The last flicker's going out

Exquisite shark, Selling me the dark, On a day so long, in a life so short, He offered me the end, so that's what I got

Scattered across the firmament, Assorted stars that I don't want
If yours truly ever gets his way, There'll be such a catastrophic array
I want it pitch black, pitch black, pitch black.....

I want it mercilessly remorseless, Not grinning and trite
I want over-wrought abandon, all through the night

You turn on the heater, He can maker it bleaker
Oh oh, Well the sun is going to go down,
And the moon is going to go out
You can turn the light on
He can turn the night on...
Track Name: Speed Bumps
Speed bumps, speed bumps, speed bumps, speed bumps

Shuffle up, Make some room, I'm half asleep
I wanna lie down and straighten out my thoughts

Undercover brother laying down the law, from beneath the earth's crust and for ever more
I'm just crazy to meet you, So I can stare straight through you
Learning with the cyanide deciding not to die until the sun sets on civilised lives
Like a d-romedary who melted through the road

Speed bumps, speed bumps, speed bumps, speed bumps

Underground, just lying down, dozing to the sound of a rumbling town
Peering through the crazy pavement at the crazier kerb

Lie down and straighten out your thoughts, kick them round until some get randomly caught
If you lie there long enough someone will come and run you over with their wheels
A light bulb might trouble itself to blink above your head
A moth might trouble itself to be drawn there instead

Shuffle up, Make some room, I'm still half asleep
Rub my eyes and yawn a little, drink some hot beverage
I wanna lie down and straighten out my thoughts
Track Name: Urban Sprawl
I was laid off from the office, Yeah I was laid off from the office
And the flowers and leaves are shining vivid
Leaves are shining vivid
I am a country boy, Uprooted, and planted in the town

And the urban sprawl, Doesn't get to me at all
No the urban sprawl, Doesn't get to me at all
It all began with a single brick wall

Well it wasn't really country, No no it wasn't really country
Just somewhere in between
It had cows, in a field, and a village green
The motorway rolled through one day
We revved our cars and drove away.

I was laid off from the country, Laid off from the country
And prescribed, A new life in the city
The sound of sirens, taking over from the birds
And the towering pylons, take away all my words
Track Name: Jill Stuart's Dark Days Are Over
Jill Stuart's dark days are over, Her field's coming up with clover
She is stone cold and sober, Now Jill's dark days are over

She: said come up and see her some time.
In amongst her favourite ruins, Her hospitality is brewing
Her laugh is at least as deep and wise as her weeping eyes

Jill Stuart's dark days are over, Her spirit starts to recover
We've all heard the rumour, That Jill's dark days are over

She: said come up and see her some time
Her Berlin walls have crumbled, Her visage is now untroubled
The silhouette of her and her demon gave up the struggle

There was a positive rumour, It was positively over
Her winter's now Midsummer, She woke up sane and sober
Jill's dark days are over...
Track Name: Meet My Clone
Meet my clone, My one and only
Her face is dear to me
Meet my clone, She's on her own, She's all alone
I should have kept her close to me

She doesn't know, what she should know
What everybody knows, she's an empty clone
{Her cells in-divisible, She's a child impossible}

She needs to grow, so I let her go, Out in the world
In a whirl of naive-ity
She needs to find, a soul of her own, We can't possibly share
There's barely enough for me

Eye to eye, you'd think we were the same
But it's me that feels all the guilt and rage and love and shame

Will she ever learn, To become herself, Well she can always turn
And get help from the original
I can't believe, What she said to me, she said Well you are old
But I don't think that you know it all

She envies me, because I have a history
I envy her, such pure freedom I'd prefer
Track Name: The Artist Song
Pablo Picasso, Henri Matisse, Claude Monet & Edgar Degas
Barbara Hepworth, Henry Moore, Jackson Pollock, Paul Klee
Jean Debuffet, Francis Bacon, Edward Hopper and Otto Dix
Salvador Dali, Pierre Bonnard, Max Beckmann, and

Ernst Ludwig Kirchner

I am a painter of no repute, I aspire to greater heights
I’m stuck in this one-way attic, I can’t stand the pace any more

I don’t think the paint is ever going to dry

I listen to this legacy, and I watch the paintings parading past me
And I see my name appear on the list, I can dream

Vincent cut off his ear, I’ll cut my hands away
Fact is he could paint, but my art is looking grey
I could throw the paint around the room hoping for the best
Then maybe, a gallery, will pay me for this mess

I can paint all day, but I’ll never paint the truth
I can paint...Paint the pain....

Oskar Kokoshka, Paul Cezanne, Georgia O’Keefe, Henri Toulouse-Lautrec
Roy Lichtenstein, Alberto Giacometti, Yves Tangey & William Blake
Mark Rothko, Emile Nolde, Vincent Van Gogh, Oskar Schlemmer
Andy Warhol, Auguste Macke, Camille Pissarro &

Karl Schmidt Rottluff
Track Name: Sweep and Swipe
Get out my brush dust and hush pan
You might just see me work again
Lying in on Saturdays, not all day every day
My radio blaring out, my overcoat wearing out
Shabby enough to be someone's man
But no-one's missing this one
Get out my brush dust and hush pan

If this is rebellion - give me a sandwich
If this is rebellion - give me a monkey wrench

Sweep and swipe with a will, shave off my stubborn hill
And strap on my lunatic's suit and tie
Screw in my social eyes
Put aside my off-wall tricks for happy days of nine to six
I'll meet new people, oil and water, swine and pearls
Salt and pepper, boys and girls

I was patriotic and full of pride
Until the lid came off and I saw inside
I dropped my soul down an iron grating
Spent my life trying to fish for it
With a piece of chewing gum on a string
I haven't got it yet but I ain't gonna quit
